While I havent tried this, but you uncouple some cars from your train, go some distance, turn around and come back at full speed towards the cars. You cannot hit another train in the explore route mode, since you are the only train there. You cannot do that in activity modes, since you cannot pass a red light (it automatically ends the activity) and cannot align switches to get into the path of oncoming trains.
